After having configured Shopsite 8.1's integrated FedEx module for a client I kept getting the following error on the Shopsite Add to Cart screen - FedEx Message: Service was not found. I brought this error to Shopsite's attention and they indicated that the error appears when the 'Saturday Delivery' option is turned on at the same time as ANY of the 'Express Shipping' methods. Since the client needed the Express Shipping methods more than Saturday Delivery we unchecked this option. This bug is slated to be fixed in v8.2 of Shopsite.
Let's face it; a lot of customers just add a product to their shopping basket just to see how much the merchant is going to charge them for shipping. Since this is the case wouldn't it be nice to offer FREE shipping through your Shopsite store so you could increase your customer conversion ratio? If your store can't afford to offer free shipping on ALL orders then you should setup Shopsite's Free Shipping based on Order Total option. This way when a customer reaches the qualifying dollar amount they will no longer be charged any shipping for their order. This way both of you win!
If you have your Shopsite store set to use either taxes calculated based on Zip Code, Free Shipping or real time rates with UPS or FedEx it will automatically load a ZIP CODE field within the Add to Cart page. This field needs to be populated before the client can proceed to the Checkout page. In the event that the customer enters in a different Zip Code on the Checkout screen they will need to go back to the Add to Cart page and change the Zip Code. As you can imagine this can be quite frustrating and is why some merchants look for a way to remove this Zip Code field from the Add to Cart screen within Shopsite.
When setting up your Shopsite store you may want for some of the pages to use the Page Name as a heading others not to. So long as your Shopsite custom templates have been setup properly you can do this by simply checking a check box with the page's layout settings.
Shopsite makes it easy to configure coupons to be redeemed only for specific products found within your on-line store. This can prove to be especially useful when you are trying to promote a new line of products or wish to liquidate old stock. In the event that you store carries some break-even products it might be wise to NOT include them in the list of products that the coupon can be used with.
Once you've setup and configured your AuthorizeNET payment gateway with the Shopsite shopping cart it is very important that you change the processing mode from within your AuthorizeNET control panel from Test Mode to Live Mode. If you don't do this any orders that are processed through your store will be treated as real transaction however you won't be collecting any of the funds. In the event that you discover that your store is processing orders in Test Mode you will need to contact each of your customers and request their payment details for off-line manual processing.
