Configuring Sales Tax Within Shopsite

Getting Started
Setting up Shopsite to charge your customer's sales tax is something you should do almost right away. Shopsite has three (3) unique ways configuring Sales Tax for your store.

The first one 'Use NO Sales Tax' doesn't charge the customer any tax, the second 'Use Shopper Selected Sales Tax' requires that the customer choose the proper TAX Option from a drop down menu in the Shopping Cart and the third and final option 'Use ZIP Code to Determine Sales Tax' calculates the proper sales tax based on the client's ZIP code.

The first two options are supported in supported in all three levels of Shopsite stores. The 'Use ZIP Code to Determine Sales Tax' option is only available in Shopsite Manager and Pro stores.

Step #1: Logging into Shopsite

Before you can start configuring your tax settings within Shopsite you have to first be logged into its web based interface. Depending on your hosting provider you will have been given access information in order to login. If you do NOT have this information, get it from you host.



Once you have logged into your Shopsite back office you will be presented with a screen just like the one displayed above.

Step #2: Accessing the Commerce Setup

Click on the Commerce Setup button.



Step #3: Accessing the Shopsite Sales Tax

Click on the Sales Tax button.



Step #4: Choosing Your Tax Setting

From here you have three options to choose from:

Use NO Sales Tax
Use Shopper Selected Tax
Use ZIP Code to Determine Sales Tax

Important Note: The first two options are supported in supported in all three levels of Shopsite stores. The 'Use ZIP Code to Determine Sales Tax' option is only available in Shopsite Manager and Pro stores.

Select the option that best suits your business.



Step #5: Configuring 'Use NO Sales Tax'

Select the 'Use no sales tax' option from the drop down menu and click the Save Changes button.



Step #6: Configuring 'Use Shopper Selected Tax'

Select the 'Use shopper selected tax' option from the drop down menu.



If you are going to charge sales tax on the customer's Shipping and Surcharges make sure that you check the appropriate check boxes.



Next you will need to customize the available Tax Options your customer will be able to choose from when in your Shopping Cart.


Once done, click on the Save Changes button.



Customer's Perspective: Once you have enabled this method of sales tax within Shopsite your customers will be greeted with a Drop Down menu for them to select the proper tax setting for their situation.


Step #7: Configuring 'Use ZIP Code to Determine Sales Tax'

Select the 'Use ZIP Code to Determine Sales Tax' option from the drop down menu.



If you are going to charge sales tax on the customer's Shipping and Surcharges make sure that you check the appropriate check boxes.



Scroll till you find the state(s) that you need to charge sales tax for and check the appropriate check box(es).



Fill in the applicable Tax Rate that needs to be charged.



Click the Save Changes button.



Customer's Perspective: Once you have enabled this method of sales tax within Shopsite your customers will be greeted with a field to enter their ZIP code so that tax can be calculated based on it.
